Brother Brother is Chicago's premiere original funk and soul band, forging a wide range of influences into a tight, unique sound. Their energy and repertoire is perfectly suited to both the packed nightclubs of the city, and the elegant ballrooms of the private event circuit.
The eleven piece band's style has been described by Showcase Music Magazine as "some the funkiest R&B, jazz, and blues influenced original songs seen live in some time... Brother Brother is band you cannot afford to miss."
Founding members Matt Spiegel and Jon Spiegel serve as the ensembles' musical and lyrical foundation, with Matt's soaring vocals leading the way. Matt is a highly sought commercial and live club vocalist , the founder/front man of the phenomenally popular Tributosaurus, and the producer of the highly regarded rock 'n' roll talk show Sound Opinions. Jon is a 20-year veteran of the Chicago music scene, and has recorded and played with Dr. John, Freakwater, Urge Overkill, The Otters, The Lyric Opera, Robbie Fulks, The Court Theater, the Goodman Theater, among many others. He currently plays the zither for the Chicago production of Blue Man Group.
Jazz and Big Band veterans John Bowes (saxophones), Mike McLaughlin (trumpet), and Kevin Cline (trombone) form the tight, energetic "Three Guys" horn section. Vocalists Shana Spiegel and Stephanie Rogers blend perfectly with Matt to create unmatched vocal harmony. Guitarist and vocalist Jeff Freling is also currently the band captain of Blue Man Group, and is a critically acclaimed songwriter himself. Greg Baroni (bass) is an alumnus of The Convulsions and the groundbreaking Chick Singer Night. Dan Leali (drums) has been Grammy-nominated for his work with Liquid Soul, and when not holding down the beat for Brother Brother, Dan also works with Blue Man Group, Tributosaurus, and Frank Catalano. Keyboard player Chris Neville is a huge part of Tributosaurus, and fronts his own eclectic rock group, The Pocket.
Brother Brother has played everywhere in Chicago, including Schuba's, Martyrs', The Note, The Double Door, Fitzgerald's, The Park West, Navy Pier, and the Vic. Corporate clients have included Potlatch, Bank of America, Cramer-Krasselt Advertising, Xpedx, WLUP, WCKG, and Starbucks Coffee. Music from the Brother Brother CD's Bring on the Dogs and Busy Little Id can be heard on MTV's Real World, and the band was chosen to headline a WXRT Local Anesthetic showcase. Brother Brother was honored to receive the Chicago Music Award for Best Rock Entertainer, beating out Smashing Pumpkins, Poi Dog Pondering, Veruca Salt, and Local H.
